About Smith Organic Chocolates
Smith Organic Chocolates began almost on a whim. Donna Smith was perusing one of those proverbial gift catalogs you always get at Christmas (but you usually throw away). She saw a gadget that melts chocolate. It looked like - FUN! On Christmas Day 2006, the Smith family melted a 70% chocolate bar and dipped banana slices in it - hmmmmmm - so good.
The week before Valentine's Day, Donna served her signature Organic Almond Butter Balls to some girl friends. They LOVED them! For Valentine's Day and Easter 2007, she made a WHOLE LOT of chocolate and gave it away. People liked the chocolates and began asking:
"Are you going to SELL these?"
It got her thinking, "Hmmmmm. Maybe we should." And Smith Organic Chocolates was born, with the help of husband Kirby and friend Melanie. Smith Organic Chocolates believes that chocolate should be healthy and yet taste good. That's why we use as many certified organic ingredients as possible. We are 99.9% organic and hope to be certified soon.
Donna graduated Valedictorian (earned the highest grade in the class) in March 2008 from the online ecolechocolate school out of British Columbia, Canada. To see what Donna learned, check out the school at www.ecolechocolat.com.
To check out our "press clippings" go to www.lancasteronline.com. The New Era's Nibbles column featured us on Wednesday, May 21, 2008, and "Dish" announced our second outlet when we added Royer Pharmacy. The Sunday News included us in their feature on home-based businesses on April 27, 2008. The Ephrata Review did a story on us in November 2007. You can check that out at www.ephratareview.com. Then go to archives and search for Smith Organic Chocolates. We have also been featured on Blue Ridge Cable-11 News. In August of 2008, we were featured in the Lancaster Intelligencer Journal. That article was seen by the Associated Press, who mentioned us in an article that went nationwide later that month, published in such places as Seattle, WA, Ventura, CA, Worchester, MA, and www.forbes.com, cnbc.com, and cnn.com (and many more). We are thankful that National Food Network has a blurb about us on their website and published a picture of our Almond Butter Balls in their October 2008 magazine.
We are also on Facebook, Twitter, Dessert Professional, Natural Food Network, and LinkedIN social networking sites. We also have The Organic Chocolate Blog. Review it at http://smithorganicchocolates.blogspot.com.
