Frequently Asked Questions
Question: Are all your ingredients organic?
Answer: About 99.9% of our ingredients are organic. In the case of our food colors, a few are "all-natural."
Question: Why is dark chocolate more healthy for you?
Answer: Because dark chocolate has a greater percentage of actual cocoa mass, it offers the body anti-oxidants which help your immune function, plus beneficial qualities to lower your blood pressure similarly to the way red wine does. It also has things called 'flavinoids' that help the blood pressure and opening up your arteries.
Question: Why is organic chocolate better for you than non-organic chocolate?
Answer: Most of our foods are sprayed with chemicals while still in the growing stage. These pesticides and growth hormones may do their job well, but over time, our bodies begin to "break down" over having to break down these dangerous chemicals in our systems. Did you ever wonder why your grandparents or great-grandparents didn't seem to come down with some of our "degenerative" diseases (like cancer, cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes, etc.)? Until after WWI, farmers didn't spray their fruits and vegetables with dangerous chemicals nearly as much. During the 20th century, a "peaceful" use for the chemicals used in chemical warfare was needed. The manufacture of such chemicals did not stop at the end of the war, and actually had helped to boost the economy. The government started subsidizing farmers who used these chemicals to spray their crops. The crops now "looked" better at the market and seemed more desirable because you didn't have to worry about cutting open an apple and finding a bug in it or see the hole the bug had bored into it. And now, nearly a century later, we are reaping the consequences to this.
Question: Is that why organic food is more expensive than "regular" food?
Answer: Yes. The farmers are paid to spray, plus organic certification has extra costs involved.
Question: What about your white chocolate? is it organic?
Answer: Our white chocolate is a blend of organic white chocolate and high quality "all-natural" white chocolate (in other words, "clean" - it has no hydrogenated oils or other additives).
Question: What makes "white chocolate" white chocolate?
Answer: White chocolate contains cocoa butter, a product of the cocoa bean, while white confectionary coatings contain other types of fats (such as butter fat or other oils). The other ingredients, such as milk, sugar, vanilla, etc. are the same, but it's not white chocolate if it doesn't have cocoa butter. Check your labels to make sure.
Question: Where do you ship?
Answer: We ship anywhere around the world, using U.S.P.S. or UPS. During summer months, or shipping to the southern hemisphere (such as Australia or South America, India or Africa) during North America's winter months, will require a small extra charge for a gel-refrigerant package to be included in shipping internationally.
Question: Do you find it hard not to eat a lot of what you make?
Answer: Not generally, which is kind of funny. Donna was recently reminded of the fact that she used to be a choco-holic!
